Razid looked like an impossible case

Once in a while I get an opportunity to really create a miraculous smile. Razid was one of them. He came in a week or two ago for general fillings and asked me what he could do to improve his smile.

He is a very good looking young man who works at a government publishing firm but also is a singer. He was extremely self conscious about his smile and soon after asked me about all the options open to him.

Looking at the situation he presented, he had two front teeth that had grown in front of the others (probably due to his milk teeth not falling out until very late) and two upper teeth hidden behind them and two more hidden behind those! I told him braces was an option but he would need to remove 4 teeth and be on braces for a long time before the front teeth get pushed back and the others straightened out.

Poor Razid … he looked utterly dejected when I said this.

That was then that I looked again at his teeth and I began to see that it was possible to give him the smile he wanted much, much faster than with braces (It would take atleast 2 to 3 years to complete).

I took a deep breath and told him that I would take this case on and make it such that he would get the smile he wanted in just the first visit! I planned to make 2 bridges: one for his upper teeth and another for his lower, but I promised he would walk out of that first visit smiling in a way he has never ever thought he would.

Today was the day… I blocked out the entire afternoon as it was a challenging case! The whole Team was excited as we were about to create a miracle …. could we pull this one off? Could we create the smile for Razid in just one day?

It took a while but the results were just fantastic!

Razid couldn’t believe it …. in his first visit, he now had a natural looking smile. This was the perfect time as it was just before the festive season too!

He kissed my hand saying thank you which made me want to cry. … I thanked him for trusting in me and letting me create what I pictured I could deliver … his perfect smile!

Thank you Razid … you made me present again to what a joy it is to be able to change smiles … sometimes it looks like an impossible task … but with faith .. wow look at the results!!

Hydie still had gaps and a crooked tooth after her braces

Hydie found one of our Reminder Postcards in the mail for her uncle. It’s a quirky postcard that reminds patients to come in for their six-monthly check up which our patients come to expect from us as they’re usually to busy to track that they’re due in for that all to important mantainence visit.

She checked out the blog and made an appointment to see us to ask what we could do for the gaps she had. You see, she had already done her braces but there were still gaps and she had a tooth that was left still tilted.

Hydie actually expected just to come in and have her teeth examined, but when I told her that she’d be out of the clinic in 45 minutes with a beautiful smile and it was only going to cost her RM1200, she was flabbergasted!

“What! You mean each tooth was going to cost RM1200, don’t you?” I said, “Nope! The whole makeover is RM1200 and you’ll be out of here by 3:15. I promise!”

She smiled and said, “Wow! I thought it was a complicated procedure and I need to re-make the appointment and it was going to be really expensive.” I laughed and asked her as we prepared her for her makeover, ” Have you any other questions?” and sure enough she asked the final one …. “Is is going to be painful?”

“Nope! Pain is not part of the price! You got to pay an extra 20% for that!” We both laughed as we began the makeover.

The best part was when I gave her the mirror after the makeover was done …. she had the biggest smile.

I printed out her makeover “before” and “after” photos and placed them in the specially made Makeover Album we give to all our patients. It’s a great way to remember the joyous occasion … the Magic Moment when you get your dream smile is forever captured for you to keep.

I love my job …. I get to make people happy every day. I get to create beautiful smiles for people!!

Shereen was referred to me by Evelyn, a business associate and friend. Shereen is an avid blogger and met Evelyn who blogs too …. blogging is such a fun past time for many of us, don’t you agree?

Shereen made the appointment for the works …  the whitening and then a makeover. I explained to her when she came in that I’ll be doing the Whitening first so I could match the colour for her new smile. She settled down and said she was a tad nervous!

The Whitening took about an hour an a half as I did her complimentary scaling and polishing first. It makes perfect sense to start off with a super clean set of teeth!

Shereen was amazing …. She said her teeth felt a little sensitive so I applied the ACP gel (it’s a special gel that re-mineralises the teeth instantly and we took a short break before the Makeover portion (I did a couple of patients whilst she rested and caught up with her smses in the waiting area).

When Shereen was ready we continued with her Makeover.

She needed to close gaps on both her upper and lower teeth. That wasn’t too difficult though I did a little more to make sure the teeth don’t look over large.

The Makeover itself was a breeze though we took a little longer as she just had her Whitening done.

When it was time for Shereen to look into the magic mirror, I don’t know who was more excited, Shereen or I!

She loved it!! She soon texted Evelyn saying she can’t stop smiling.

Last week, I met Shereen a a business function, a BNI Visitor’s Day for the Ampang Chapter. Shereen was so smart and confidently smiling throughout the meeting. She told everyone at the table that she had done a makeover with me. That was so cool!

Thanks Shireen! I had many new enquiries that day … you were my walking, talking and mostly smiling testimony.

Marina before

Marina had found us by googling ‘Makeover’ on the net! Yipee yay! I love it when I get patients who make an appointment after seeing the makeovers posted here.

When I first started this blog some years ago I wasn’t sure whether anyone would find it … let alone read it and be inspired by the real-life stories and before/after photos that I post. I always wondered if people would think the photos were doctored … nope, they’re not doctored or sourced from some other place …. they’re ‘raw’ photos taken by my iPhone by me! and uploaded onto my laptop.

Marina was one of the growing number of patients who read my blog … I was so happy to meet her!

Marina wanted the works, she wanted a bleaching first then the makeover … she said later she secretly felt I was going to say I couldn’t help her get a beautiful smile!

We started with her Zoom! Whitening first. Marina was in luck! She didn’t know that we have a Promotion going on.

For the Zoom! Whitening until December 17 2010, patients get 1. a full scaling free (worth RM100), 2. the option of 4 15-minute cycles (that’s an added boost from the usual 3 cycles), 3. the Before and After photos in a specially designed Makeover Album (I don’t know of any other clinic that gives this), 4. a Brite Smile toothpaste that stops new stains from taking hold on her new whitened teeth (worth RM80 and only available in selected dentist’s offices) 5. and a gift voucher that she can give away to someone so they can get RM100 off their own Zoom! Whitening.

The Zoom! Whitening was done first as I would be matching the colour of her new whitened teeth for the Makeover portion. When I showed Marina the mirror after her whitening, she was already all smiles!

The Makeover was a challenge … Marina had a cross-bite and several tilted teeth to work on … but as I told her, I love the challenge!

At last we were done! It took a little longer than an hour as I had to get her able to chew normally…. there’s absolutely no sense in having a beautiful smile if Marina couldn’t use it for eating!

… Marina? Well, Marina was ecstatic as she finally had even looking teeth in just under 3 hours!

I was exhausted though … last night I slept for 7 straight hours!!

The yellow toothed smile before

Vinia was a referral from an old friend. Her father had met me many months ago at a business function and asked my friend for the contact numbers as Vinia had been “bugging” him to make an appointment for her to see the dentist.

You see, Vinia is a sweet 16 and as any teenager that age (well anyone at any age for that matter) she was terribly self conscious of a discoloured tooth that marred a very pretty smile.

Vinia came in with both her parents and sister Natania (what lovely names!) for a consultation. After some discussion I got the green light to wave my magic wand!

Vinia’s tooth grew out with the yellow stain when she was 6… I explained to her mum that it probably was because the milk tooth it replaced was infected and so the pus from the infected milk tooth caused the growing permanent tooth to be discoloured!

I told Vinia to relax. The job was pretty easy and she’d finally have the sparkling smile she’s always wanted. It didn’t take long at all really.

As I finished I realised that her smile could do with a little more tweaking to be perfect, so as an added surprise for her parents, and with Vinia’s permission, I also corrected the tilted tooth next to the yellowed one. Yep, I am a perfectionist! I just couldn’t let her go home with something I could correct now could I?

When it was time for Vinia’s first glance in the mirror, I handed it to her with flourish …. taa daah!!

She was sooooo happy. And so were her parents! The first thing her mother said was, “Ah, Now you can stop bugging us about your front tooth!”

Yes, Vinia, now you can smile and smile and smile!
