Little Patients
As always, the clinic was filled with patients, young and old. I was struck by one particular lad that was treated last for the day. His mother had been waiting for his turn and obviously had errands to run, and so the
minute it was his turn, she sat him down in the dental chair and told me she would be back. He just needed a small filing and clean up so I went ahead (if he needed an extraction, the permission and presence of a responsible adult would be needed as he is 8 years old)
When I finished, I took him out to the waiting area and his mum wasn’t there! I asked my nurse/ receptionist who said she had left soon after I started treating her son.
He was cool and said he’d just wait and do some colouring whilst he waited. He then proceeded to get some colouring sheets from the rack, a mug full of crayons and happily lay on the floor colouring! When his mum came back, I thanked her … the fact she left her son with us whilst she ran her errands was a testimony of the trust she had in us.
I was so touched by her faith in us, that her son would be well taken care of and would be happy and feel secure the whole time.
I love the little patients. It is so heartening when they are fearless and at home in the clinic. That is one of the most important things we aim for in our clinics!

These little girls found the Kids Space in the Taman Melawati clinic fun to play in whilst they waited for their parents to finish with their customary check ups.
