FAQ
What are the most frequently asked questions?
1. Do I need to make an appointment?
Answer: It is best to do so to ensure being seen at the time you want to be seen. We do understand that emergencies happen so if you were to come in without an appointment we will do our best to accommodate your requests.
2. Does dental treatment hurt?
Answer: Of course not! We know fear of pain is utmost in your mind when you see us …. so we routinely make sure your experience is one you will be happy with!
3. Is it expensive?
Answer: There are so many different treatment plans that are available these days. We will give you all your options and help you choose one that you are comfortable with. Then, and only then, will we begin your complete dental care plan to keep you smiling for years to come.
4. What do you mean by Treatment Plans?
Answer: Most people come in when they are in pain and are hurting. We deal with the immediate emergency if it is needed, and during the initial examination we also see if there are other treatment required which you may not know you need. Lastly comes the ‘wish list’ dentistry, this is where we can show you how we can change your existing smile to give you the smile you always wanted. We will draw up a plan where the most urgent is done according to what you want done first. The goal is always to get you a place where you only need a six-monthly clean-up and polish!
5. Can I see what I will look like before I do a Makeover?
Answer: That’s the best part! We will do a mock-up for you which takes only minutes and gives you an idea of how your new smile looks like. The mock-up is detachable and totally painless to do, too.
6. Do you accept credit cards?
Answer: Yes, we accept Visa and Master Card as well as Direct Debit Bank Cards for the major banks.
7. Is there a guarantee period?
Answer: We guarantee our procedures for one calender month which means if the fillings are broken by you within the month we will re-do them for no additional fee or refund you the fee you paid us.
8. How do get to the clinics?
Answer: Check out the page ‘Location’ in this blog. There are directions to both clinics and a map you can download and print if necessary. Please note the car parking tips especially for the clinic in EON Bank (Parking your car really is easy if you follow the tip)
Amalina Says:
Hi Dr,
May i know how much the down payment for single curve braces, only for upper teeth? Maybe you have any suggestion on the economic dental service for braces in Selangor area? Well, Ampang would be great. Thanks doc!
Posted on January 28th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Amalina,
Usually you’ll need to do the upper and lower teeth together as they work in tandem when you eat. The down payment is about RM1500. Drop in on Friday or Saturday afternoons in the Taman Melawati clinic (which happens to be close to Ampang) as we have a visiting orthodontist there on those days.

Thanks Yanni,
Yes, it was a challenge given your job as a divemaster, the crowns had the extra job of holding the second stage of a regulator securely in place for you to breathe in air from the tank whenever you dive ….. and you dive A LOT as it’s your job!
Also it needed to be done such that there would be no air pockets or else whenever you descend you would have pain in your teeth as you can’t equalise the pressure under the crowns, can you?
Thanks for being my friend and dive buddy for so long. It’s always fun going diving with you!

U.Yoganand Says:
Hello dr
Long time ago (10yrs before ) dentist filled up one of my lower tooth with a metal peice ( to cover up the bacteria affected area)
Now the metal piece came out already !!!
so what kind of treatment i can do now ?
what will be the costing and how many hours required to do the same ?
i stay in Kl so is it possible to do it at Raja Laut clinic
Refered by Mr.Mok sin BNI member.
Posted on February 2nd, 2009 at 11:41 am
Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Yoganand,
You probably need to replace the metal filling.
The best thing to do is to come in for a proper check-up so we can give you an idea of what you need to do and how much the treatment will come to. You may be surprised to find out it may just need a simple filling wich costs between RM70 to RM80 and that’s it! However the longer you wait, the more complicated the treatment may be required to fix it.
So give us a call. You can check out the page Contact Us or Location Page for the details for your clinic of choice.

Thus, I was wondering whether I could come to your clinic tomorrow but thing is, I was wondering whether you could issue me MC or time sheet (if MC is not possible) as a contemporaneous record for my office reference…

Salam,
I am planning make scaling and whitening to my teeth. Could you kindly please inform me the price there? Thanks.
Rahimah
Posted on February 11th, 2009 at 9:56 am
Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Rahimah,
Scaling with polishing in the clinics should be RM100.
We have two whitening programmes, one is from Spain and uses a intermittent plasma light and the other an American product which uses an ultraviolet light. Both take a little more than an hour and is done in-house. The cost for the treatment for the Spanish whitening programme is RM1600, where as the American programme is RM800. The price difference is due to the cost of the material.
Drop by either clinic and we will answer any queries you may have as which would be better for you.
Hope to see you soon.

Evonne Says:
Hi Fauziah,
Was recommended by Irene Yee. The gums near my wisdom tooth is swollen and it makes it hard for me to chew. A bit of my gums still cover the top of my wisdom teeth and I suppose that makes a good place for bacteria to do their dirty work.
I hope I can come in this weekend (21st/22nd feb). I have a few other concerns about my teeth besides the swollen gums. For instance, i had crowning done on one of my molars and I notice discoloration on the gums underneath the crowning. Though there isn’t any pain or discomfort (yet) I think I need something done so that it doesn’t get worse.
Please let me know if it is possible for me to come in this weekend as well as the average price for the procedures.
Posted on February 20th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Evonne,
It was really nice to see you yesterday. Yes, all you needed was a simple surgical procedure to remove that bit of gum that acted as a food reservoir, causing your infection, that procedure is called an Operculectomy (how’s that for some fancy scientific jargon!)
As to the discolouration, as I told you it’s an unfortunate side effect of the metal in your crowns that now have ‘tattoo’ed your gums. It has no other effect except may look a little unsightly.
My thanks to Irene … she and I have known each other since we were in Primary School in St Mary’s. It’s just great to still be contact with friends I’ve known nearly all my life!
Hope you are well and recovering from the Minor Surgical procedure!

Dr Fauziah Mohamed Yunus Says:
Hi Alex,
Closing the gaps may cost as little as RM200 or as much as RM400 for composite veneers. It depends on how far apart they are and I will usually need to do both front teeth to make it look natural.
Please call the clinic of your choice so we can book you in!

Dear Dr Fay,
I just found out that you specializes in dental treatment for special children. Excellent!! I’m so glad. My son is 3 years old and he has symptoms of autism. I have trouble trying to brush his teeth coz’ he hates the brush in his mouth. Can you help me?
By the way I just booked at appointment with your clinic for my daughter Soraya (4 yrs) tomorrow Tuesday at 2.30 (the only time I can be available). But she’ll be seeing Dr Nik instead. I just found out last weekend she has holes in her molars (both left and right). It’ll be the first time for her seeing a Dentist. I took a picture of her teeth and she cringed looking at the pictures and immediately agreed to see a “Doctor”.

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Mumtazah,
I’m glad you will be seeing us tomorrow. Dr Nik Roslin is excellent with special children as she is extremely patient, kind and gentle.
Soraya, I am sure, will have a great experience and that will probably go a long way to put both your son and yourself at ease when you get a first-hand look at the way kids actually respond to the whole dental experience in the clinic.
Please feel free to ask as many questions as you want tomorrow. Our support staff and Dr Nik will be only too happy to answer any queries you may have.

is there any how i can fix it? i heard bout the veneers. what is it actually? is it u paste sumthing to the teeth?
i heard also about a rubber used to make the front teeth back in the middle (or i might be wrong).
thanks in advance
Posted on April 20th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Julia
Well the best way is to visit a dentist to see what can be done to stop any movement ….and to rectify any gap that has appeared.
There are soooo many ways really to do both. Most of the ways are pretty simple and will give you peace of mind and have you smiling happily.
Make the time to see someone, a dentist of course, and then you can choose which of the many options available to you that will suit you best.
See you soon!

Amalina Says:
Hi Doc,
I’m thinking to put braces on my teeth. Just for a first time appointment how much the cost will be before i proceed? Appreciated if you can inform me the whole cost. Tqvm
Posted on May 6th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Amalina
The first visit with the orthodontist is usually RM35.
The actual braces treatment usually cost a total of RM5000 however it is split into an initial RM1500 when the brackets are placed, and then RM200 each time you come back for the adjustments and replacement of the rubber rings.
This means you break down the remainder of RM3500 (after the initial RM1500) into RM200 payments every 4-6 weeks.
Even if your teeth take longer to move there is no additional cost placed on you.
Additional charges are for any fillings or teeth removal or cleaning up that you may need, prior to the actual treatment to re-align your teeth.
This is because we need to get you to the best possible shape before we move teeth …. it makes little sense to take so much trouble and spend your money if the teeth you want to keep are not in good shape!
The best thing to do is come in for a check up and find out what you need to do and how long it will probably take.
You can call Hapiza at 03-41071591 or Idayu at 03-26911334 for an appointment.
If you want to see the orthodontist directly, he visits on Friday and Saturday afternoons at the Taman Melawati clinic.
Hope to hear from you!
Dr Fauziah

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Julia,
Sorry for the late reply. I fix the gaps by various methods depending on what you want. Most commonly with Composite Veneers which are tooth coloured fillings matched exactly to your natural teeth and polished to a fine gloss and shine.
Please check out the post on “The College Teacher’s New Smile” or “The Shy Contractor” post dated May 7 2009.
I hope this is informative enough!

Sabrina Says:
Hi Dr Fauziah,
Just want to find out how much is the cost for filling? I’m also thinking to do a root canal plus crowning and can you give the charges as well. Thanks.
Posted on May 10th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Sabrina,
The cost of a filling depends on the type and work done, a general guide is between RM70 to RM100.
Root Canal work depends on the number of canals in the tooth to be treated hence again a general guide is for a Incisor or Canine RM500, a Premolar RM800 and Molars RM1200. This usually includes the necessary x-rays and is done by our specialist endodontist.
The crowns again depend on the type you require. I assume you are referring to the tooth that is being root treated, this means besides the crown (RM800 for a porcelain bonded to metal or RM1600 for a high-impact porcelain) the dead tooth will need to be strengthened further with titanium posts (RM100) so as to withstand the inevitable forces of eating as it gets more brittle as time goes by.
Perhaps you could come in so I can give you a more personalised quote after seeing the actual tooth needing our care.
Please call Idayu at 03-26911334 or Hapiza at 03-41071591 and tell them you are coming for a consultation for possible root canal treatment so we can allocate time to explain the whole procedure. Then you can make an informed choice as to what you want to do next!!
Hope to see you soon.

Tini Bram Says:
Dear Dr Fauziah
How much do charge to fix full set of denture (upper & lower) and can you recommend good type of denture availabe at your clinic?
Regards
Tini
Posted on June 2nd, 2009 at 1:47 pm
admin Says:
Hi Tini,
A full set of dentures could be with a plastic (acrylic) base or metal (chrome cobalt) base. The teeth are usually acrylic and have many grades.
Usually the plastic base is good for full dentures and would cost RM600 each which makes a full set, that is both upper and lower, RM1200 in total.
The chrome base would usually be advised only if the patient wanted a really thin base. It’s usually ‘overkill’ for full dentures. These dentures would cost RM950 each which would make a pair of upper and lower full dentures RM 1800.
The rule of thumb is RM150 for acrylic base and RM40 per tooth, or RM600 for the chrome base and still RM40 per tooth. We also do Valplas dentures now which are flexible dentures. These flexible denture base in RM 600 just like the chrome base dentures.
Pretty easy to calculate actually, but I’d still say come in for a consultation as then you could see the actual dentures to help you make your choice in material for the base.
The other consideration is the time it takes to make the dentures as the whole process is 4 steps in all. The chrome base will take a little longer between step 2 and 3 as the metal base is made of casted metal which take a week to fabricate.
Acrylic/plastics could be as fast as a week if the steps are timed right but not so for casted metal bases.
Hope this makes sense!

Linda Wahid Says:
Salam,
Dear Dr. Fauziah,
I would like to know the charges for this treatments:
1. Normal scaling and deep scaling
2. Filings for composite per tooth replacing the one with silver
amalgam fillings.
Thank you so much.
Salam.
Posted on June 3rd, 2009 at 8:05 am
Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Linda,
Generally normal scaling and polishing is RM100.
Deep scaling is very, very, very seldom required and probably would cost more because of the xrays required (they’re RM50 each) for each quadrant. Kind of difficult to quote really because of this. I must say I last did a bona fide deep scaling years ago and had great results.
Composite fillings to replace silver amalgam usually are RM80 to RM100. These won’t break your bank!
Come in for a quick check up. I’ll draw up a treatment plan for you.

Salam Dr Fauziah,
Since small I’m scared to see dentist. I will try to avoid unless I really cannot. I have small teeth and gap in between. I regret for not bother to do something to my teeth when I was at young age. Until my son told me that I will look more beautiful when I smile or laugh if there is no gap. I also need to remove one of my tooth that was broken & my husband keep complaining about it.
Appreciate if you could help me to overcome my fear.
Posted on June 8th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Eyka,
If you are certain that you want to get braces done then just go ahead and make the appointment in October.
The service is offered in the Taman Melawati clinic on Friday and Saturday afternoons so be sure to tell Hapiza that your appointment is for braces and she’ll slot you in.
Since you’d probably start with just an examination and diagnosis, the orthodontist will ask you what you don’t like about your smile and work out a schedule that will suit you.
Usually some pre-treatment maybe necessary like fillings, scaling and possibly extractions so it’s hardly ever that the braces are placed on the first visit anyway. It’ll be a good way to get used to the clinic and get to know the orthodontist too.
Remember to call 03-41071591 and speak to Hapiza. You can call her now too if you’d like, just remember to say you’ve contacted me at this blog and you haven’t been to the clinic before.
She’s really nice and will answer any queries you have OK. As to self-ligitating braces, I honestly do not know, ask the orthodontist as he knows best. I ensure the overall experience is outstanding!!

plus i think my gum is swollen
does my wisdom tooth need to be remove???
and i would like to know the charges as well
thank you.

Posted on June 14th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Iema,
You probably can’t open your mouth wide because of the swelling from the wisdom tooth!
I can’t tell yet if you need to take it out but you may need medication if the area is infected (probably is since it’s swollen).
Medication usually is RM40 or 50.
I doubt you need surgery, it is quite rare for upper wisdom teeth. I usually can do normal removals for upper wisdom teeth… the trick is in getting you to relax and close your mouth! Normal extraction are RM80.
But if you do need surgery (and again I doubt it) the whole package which includes the actual surgery itself, the medications, the mandatory xrays, the follow-up treatment, is RM650.
By the way did you know RTM2 ran a docudrama called ‘On Call’ a couple of years back. First they filmed me doing surgery on an actual patient. Then on a different day, my nurse and I acted in a drama specially written to explain what happens when there is an emergency. The actress/patient was in pain at home and then comes to the clinic and I was filmed, like I get a call saying there was an emergency and I drive to the clinic etc, etc. It was a whole drama with me explaining everything at the end. That was so cool!
So, don’t worry Iema … I’d just come in to be checked so we can actually see if you do need the surgery or not.
Call Idayu at 03-26917359 or 03-26911334 and we’ll slot you in for a check up.

Hi Dr Fauziah,
I have a lower impacted wisdom tooth growing and my jaw hurts. I want to have it removed. May i know if laser is used to remove the wisdom tooth? And i wonder if Intravenous Sedation can be given?I m very afraid of the after pain…
Thanks!
Posted on June 18th, 2009 at 12:48 am
Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Desiree,
No I don’t use lasers to remove the wisdom teeth, nor do I give intravenous sedation. My surgeries usually are over within 20 minutes so I seldom need the patients to be sedated.
The after pain would be controlled by medication and I do believe my patients don’t suffer much. I do sometimes give Reiki treatment after the surgery if I think it is required though.
I must tell you about my last surgery patient. Hussien is an Arab who works in the Saudi Embassy as a cultural attache. I actually bumped into him in KLCC shopping with his wife and 3 kids during the evening of the surgery! He was quite, quite well and pain free.
If you like I can refer you to a Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon who does sedation. You need to drop by and I’ll do a quick examination and write you the referral letter.
Call Idayu at 03-26911334 on Monday and she’ll slot you in.

I’m just so thankful to be able to find this website. After so long trying to figure out what to do with my uneven & splayed out tooth, I’m just glad to come close to the solution. I can’t do braces because of my allergic problem to painkillers (anything contain paracetamol) and it just making things worst.
After seeing so many testimonials in this gallery, I’m a bit relief coz I’m not the only one who had bad tooth problem. All this while i feel so insecured about my smile and even my hubby sometimes used to tease my smile because of my BIG teeths infront.
I hope I can have a great & beautiful smile after I get a treatment at your clinic. And hope that it can boost back my confidence . Insyallah.

Hi Alynd
It’ll be great to see you. I too am really thrilled that the blog is a working as it was intended … that people find there are other ways to check out for a beautiful smile.
It’s not about beauty in the end, isn’t it? It might look like it is at the start … but it really about self-confidence.
Something shifts in my world when I have self-confidence and a good feeling about myself. I do things differently, I take different actions when I feel happy with myself.
Life itself looks and occurs, differently.
I always am amazed at differences the makeovers make for many of the people I have treated.
There was a widower who finally got the courage to chat up a girl and now is married to her. He brought her to see me when he first started dating, two months ago he came in again for routine treatment and she is now his wife! Wow!!
There there was this lady that got the courage to look for a different job and there was this guy who landed his first job …. so many do different things because they had a different opinion of themselves and were happy!
Please tell me when we do meet that you were the person from the blog.
And thank you for your comments …. the real life comments from real patients, as you rightly mentioned, do give make people take action for themselves … They know when it’s the real thing!

Hi Dr. Fauziah,
I have one of my front teeth is inwards (upper jaw) and uneven teeth. How much it will cost? Does the composite veneers will last forever coz i afraid the teeth might get broken.

Hi Dr Fauziah,
I’m very afraid of going to the dentist because during my school days, during one of the check-ups in school,
the dentist was busy scaling my teeth while chatting, chipped off part of my front tooth.
She did fixed it back at her gov clinic but I think it’s still pretty ugly.
Plus, my teeth aren’t aligned. Through my years, I’ve never took a picture showing my teeth even my wedding pictures are all mouth closed.
I’ve seen your work online and they look really great.
I have seek a few dental clinics and they were very costly.
They asked me to do crowning, etc which cost about RM380 per tooth.
I wanted to attach a picture of my teeth so you can see what’s there to be and can be done so I can at last have a teeth grin but there’s not an email add at your contact.
I was wondering.. if you could give me some advice and roughly how much the total bill will cost.
Thank you

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Ryna,
Giving you a quote from what you have described is kind of difficult. It would be great if you come in so I can see what you want and what you do/don’t like about your smile.
Composite veneers are fillings however they do last like all other fillings especially if due care was excercised when making them.
As to your teeth getting broken … that is most unlikely from the making of the veneers!!
If you look at previous posts and comments, you’d see that veneers are quite, quite safe. The usual care is necessary, like the regular brushing and flossing and visits to the dentist would be expected.
I’d come in for an initial examination and discussion if I were you….
so call Idayu at 603-26917359
or Hapiza at 603-41071591
and get them to book you in today!

Hi Iena,
You could mail your photos to fay@drfauziah.com

Besides …. meeting up with me or Dr Nik Roslin would go a long way towards you being comfortable with doing something like a makeover, especially after a bad experience. You’d get to meet the dentist!!

Well, I just tell myself that by paying more means that my tooth will be in better quality.

Hi Dr Fauziah,
Just want to say thank you for doing such a great job! I’ve been wanting to do my teeth for the longest time but just never got around to doing it as it was either way out of my budget or probably after one bad experience, did not want to entrust just any dentist to do my teeth. But after my colleague, Rozalin, got her teeth done and when I heard such good reviews about you and read your blog, I felt confident and motivated to get my teeth done by you.
I spent a lot of money doing my teeth the last time and it wasn’t up to my expectation at all. I felt he didn’t really care whether it was a good job or not but was just interested in getting paid in the end.
I find you very warm, interesting and pretty cool. I enjoyed listening to your stories and wish I could have responded more but unfortunately, couldn’t say much. I also realised it was more important for you to get my reaction and satisfaction before I paid for it. I think it is more of a passion for you rather than an income. That’s a really good quality and hard to find these days. With so many good qualities, I just hope you find what you’re looking for.
Anyway, I will surely recommend you to my family, friends and colleagues and will drop by again, sometime soon.
Thanks again…what a difference…now I can smile without being conscious at all

youknowwho Says:
Dear Dr Fauziah,
I am sorry as I have to write this email to you.
As communicated with you earlier, you have made a booking for me at your clinic for 9.30 am appointment (Monday 20 July 2009).
As mentioned to you, I needed to catch a flight in the afternoon, hence i purposely went to your clinic at 8.30 am and parked infront of your clinic. I know it was too early to go up to your clinic, so i decided to wait until 9.00 am (I was with my parents and we waited in the car) and at the same time i had arranged to meet up with my friend (at 9.00 am) who is also your existing patient so that we can catch up on things while waiting for the 9.30 appointment at your clinic.
Before going up to you clinic, i saw 2 ladies who were being dropped off infront of your clinic (before 9.00 am). I strongly believe they are your staffs and therefore i know the staffs were already at the clinic. Thinking that they are already in the clinic, my friend and i went up to your clinic at abt 9.05 am.
We rang the bell (many times), called up the clinic (i called using my hp and my friend also tried to call again before we decided to leave your clinic) and we even knocked on the door politely. To our regret, we were ignored by your staffs. Sorry, they cannot hide from us, we saw that they peeped through the hole (many times) and we heard the movement in the clinic. They didnt have any courtesy to open the door and tell us anything. Is this your policy? Not to open the door outside business hours? Does it mean that your friendly service is restricted only during your office hours?
I was very disappointed with the incident and decided to just go back home (I was so looking forward to do the make over).
I hope that you will look into this matter seriously.
Thank you.

what is the budget i need to allowed if i go for partial dentures (4 nos of front upper teeth)? thanks for your advice
Posted on July 24th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Sam,
Sorry for the late reply. I was away on vacation and only just returned.
For partial dentures you can choose two different bases which are chrome or acrylic.
Chrome is a casted metal base that is fine and light and can be crafted into a very minimal shape. However because it is casted it is more costly at RM600.
Acrylic is a plastic base which is much thicker as it needs the bulk for strength and tends to absorb fluids like any plastic does over time especially if it is worn all the time! It is much easier to make and therefore is cheaper at RM150.
Each tooth is RM40 hence that portion doesn’t make the difference to the cost… 4 teeth means RM160.
So the cost depends on what you choose: the chrome/metal base with plastic teeth will be RM760 , or the acrylic/plastic base with plastic teeth will be RM310.
It’s really what you want and what would suit you best … perhaps the best thing to do is to drop by and we can show you samples and explain the differences in the quality.
Please call Idayu at 603-26917359 (after Tuesday 28 July as we still are doing the final touches on the renovations in the KL clinic) or call Hapiza at 603-41071591 for the Taman Melawati branch and we will be happy to slot you in.

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Syafik,
The KL branch is undergoing major renovations! It is doubling in size and will mean patients have an even more ‘wow’ experience!
I apologise for the delay. We will be in operation as of Thursday 30 July with one operative dental chair.
The delay was mainly because of a hiccup between the two main suppliers for the new dental unit. It is extremely state-of-the-art, cutting edge technology which is a ‘marriage’ between the sleek Italian design and robust Australian workability.
The footprint was not sent to the builder in time.
Also, the technicians insist on flying in from the respective countries to install the new chair themselves. This meant the new chair and fittings are flown in from the respective countries and has to clear customs.
Thank goodness it won’t be subjected to possible H1N1 infections.
But yes… we open on the 30 July with one chair and will be 100% operational by 3 August with my Italian sweetheart!
Again my apologies! Please call Idayu at 603-26917359 or 603-26911334 for appointments as she is manning the phones.
(Whilst I was on vacation she was in the Taman Melawati clinic as the builders were tearing everything apart)

Hi Dr. Fauziah,
A few months back, my wisdom tooth on the left side of my upper jaw started to grow. However instead of growing straight downwards, it is growing sideways towards my cheek.
The corners of this wisdom tooth is pressing against the gums on my lower jaw. The gums on my lower jaw has somewhat accomodated for the crooked wisdom tooth and has formed a groove/depression/hole where food particles can get stuck easily.
It no longer hurts now, but I’m thinking of having it removed because it is annoying to constantly have to remove food from that depression in the middle of my meals . Besides, it is also very hard to clean being so far in.
What should I do? How much will it cost to have that wisdom tooth removed?
Oh one more thing, a friend of mine has a cavity in one of his teeth. Naturally, I told him to go to you. The width of the cavity is about the thickness of a toothpick. How much will the filling cost?
Thanks doctor =)

Darren Says:
Hi Doc,
Recently I did a RCT and cost me RM850. Now the dentist said that I need to crown the tooh as it will periodically loses its white color. He wants to charge me RM1.1k for the crown (the cheapest meterial he said).
I would like to know how much it cost at your clinic to do a crown on my premolar tooth?
Thanks in advance.
Posted on August 5th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Darren,
There are basically three types of crowns: Porcelain bonded to metal, Full-Porcelain aka Empress crowns and finally (the seldom made these days) silver or gold coloured Full-Metal crowns
We charge about RM800 for a porcelain bonded to metal crown but since you have root filled the tooth, the tooth besides changing colour, more importantly, will eventually become brittle as it is dead ( though will remain quite happily in your mouth dead).
A dead tooth which has been root filled usually needs to be strengthened by a post (usually titanium) and that costs RM100.
This means the post is RM100. The crown then would cost either RM800 for the porcelain bonded to metal: or RM1600 for the full porcelain (it’s an extremely high grade, high impact porcelain), and (if you absolutely insist!!) RM800 for a silver/gold coloured metal crown.
Hope this makes sense…. I usually draw a diagram and list it in a chart so it is easy to see the options …

michelle Says:
hello dr. i wanna ask what’s the difference between scaling, polishing and whitening??
Posted on August 21st, 2009 at 1:15 pm
admin Says:
Hi Michelle,
A scaling is when the dentist uses a machine to remove the hard deposits that cling on your teeth (usually at the margins near your gums). Please see the Common Problems page for my post on this.
Polishing is when the dentist uses a bristle brush or a rubber cup with a paste to remove the stains from your teeth.
Whitening is a procedure (usually after scaling and polishing) where a gel-like mixture is placed on the teeth. Then a light source (a plasma light or an ultra violet light) is usually used to further activate the oxidising process of the mixture. This literally bleaches your teeth hence it becomes whiter.
There are home remedies and in-house professional formulations available.
If the procedure is done by a dentist, the control of the oxidising process is greater (it’s all in the timing and the use of the light source). Home remedies do not have the fine control that dentists have over the whole process hence the concentration of the mixture is much less.
Also remember in home remedies there is a danger that the mixture is accidentally swallowed(!!) and that the mixture is left on too long. Most people will leave on a mixture for longer than recommended! If the box says 10 minutes, they will leave it on for 15 minutes!!
Another very important consideration is that if the procedure carried out in the dental clinic, the dentist will make sure that the teeth do not have cavities or cracks or leaking fillings where the mixture can seep in and potentially cause damage to the tooth.
The main problem is most people are already afraid of dentists and probably have opted to try out a home remedy because they want to avoid seeing the dentist in the first place … in this case they probably have no idea they have a cavity or crack or leaking filling and end up damaging their teeth and have a lot of sensitivity after the procedure!
Thanks for asking, Michelle … I will write a post talking about this in the Common Problems page over the weekend for easy reference for others who may be interested too.
Hope this answers your question!

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Shidi,
I would love to see you and have the chance to change your opinion of dentists!
As to where you should make the appointment, I am in Menara EON bank on Mondays through Fridays and will be in Taman Melawati only on Saturdays.
Dr Nik Roslin, my associate is in the Taman Melwati clinic from Mondays through to Saturdays.
There is no real difference in the two branches other than the times (Menara EON is from 10am to 5 pm with the last patient at 4:30pm and Taman Melawati is from 9:30 am to 6pm with the last patient at 5:30pm)
If you live in Setiawangsa, and prefer to come on a weekend then the Taman Melawati clinic sounds like it may suit you best.
However the Menara EON clinic is usually open during the lunch time of 12 to 2pm on weekdays so we find people who work in the city prefer this.
Why don’t you call Idayu at 03-26911334 and she’ll help you make an appointment.
Hope to see you soon!

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Zahira,
If I understand correctly, you have a client who would like someone to be examined for possible cosmetic surgery correction.
I could examine the claimant first and help determine which branch of dentistry and/or whether maxillofacial surgery would be required for correction. Then I can refer them to the Specialists concerned if they so require the treatment.
Please call Idayu at 03-26911334 for an appointment and tell her that you’d like to have a Examination and Diagnosis with a Dental Report.
Perhaps this is the first step that would unravel your dilemma!

I wil complete by braces by next month. The results not really satisfied me as I found there is a gap between my front teeth now. I did ask Dr , and he suggest me to go for Gum operations, which sounds so scarry…
I heard about the Composite Veneers from my friends..can it be done. And may I know how much it cost together with the whitening my teeth too…
Awaiting for your reply.

Hi,
If you still have a gap and it looks like there is gum between the front teeth, your gum attachment between your lip and upper jaw may be the reason.
It’s difficult to say without actually seeing you. I would really like to examine you then tell you what are your options so you could decide on what to do. Perhaps like a second opinion?
Call idayu at 03-26917359 and she’ll sort out the appointment.

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Mira and Ary,
Braces or orthodontic treatment cost RM5500 over 2 years which means it is an easy payment scheme in itself.
The orthodontist usually examines you to see what you need and then makes his recommendations. Then at a later appointment , he places the brackets (the stuff that’s stuck onto your teeth) that’s when a fee of RM1500 will be due.
Every 4 to 6 weeks, you will then come back for treatment to readjust the movement. At each visit the fee is RM200.
This means the whole RM5500 is paid with an initial RM1500 when you place the brackets, then slowly at the rate of RM200 each 4 to 6 weeks until the whole treatment is completed.
The entire braces treatment cost is RM5500 even if you need longer for ‘extra stubborn’ teeth!
Hope this helps. I apologise for the late reply.
Please call Idayu at 03-26911334 or Hapiza at 03-41071591
and they’ll help you make the appointment for the initial check up.

Dear Dr. Fauziah,
I’ve done composite veneer to my front teeth back in 2003 (all 4 of them). Now they are chapping & discolored. I went to see the same dentist to get them fixed. He told me that in order to restore the veneers, he needs to remove the “old ones” first. I totally understand that. But my only concern is that at the same time, I want to do veneer to the other teeth as well. Is this possible or do I need to do the new ones other time? Also, what’s the price range for veneers at your clinic please?
Thanks & have a great day!

Would like to do composite veneers for close the gap between my front teeth. Do i need to make any appointment?? If possible can i book on the 2 Nov 09 for the veneers procedure????
Posted on October 23rd, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Dr Fauziah Says:
Dear Linda,
The old composites may need to be repaired but if they’re really badly broken I suppose they would need to be removed totally and the replaced. I really can’t tell unless I see them!
The other teeth you want to veneer shouldn’t be a problem to be done at the same time, it depends whether your dentist has the time that’s all!!
My fees for a full composite veneer is between RM250 -RM200. It depends on how much material is needed.
Why don’t you come in for a consultation … I’d probably be able to give you better and clearer advise if I can see the broken veneers and the relationship they are with your other teeth.
Dr Fauziah

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Fazliana,
No Mariam did not remove her teeth! What I did was to place composite veneers on her teeth which made them look larger and filled in the gaps! They are still her original teeth.
Cost rawatan depends on what work you need so it’s very susah to quote you when I haven’t seen you!!
Usually the patient can eat normal food after the treatment but I usually pesan to not eat batu, kaca and kayu … and jangan buka tin atau plastic dengan gigi.
I don’t know if you need a scaling…. you need to have a check up first for me to be able to advise you.
Call Idayu or Amy at 03-26911334 and say you are from the website OK. Ask for an hour so I can really examine you and tell you what you can do or cannot do.

Though she had said that the surgery will not be that long (only 1 hour and that relief me) but my concern is that i’m afraid that i will get swollen face post surgery. my best friend is getting married the other day so i hope it will not impact that much.
TQ

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Amalina,
Thank you for writing in with your concern.
I will have a word with Dr Nik and see if your surgery may need to be deferred to another date and have Hapiza call you later today.
Surgery usually involves some healing time which may include some swelling so it is normal to expect swelling, you see.
Perhaps if you are going to be very involved in the wedding, it may be a bother. The swelling is not so bad but well … since it is your best friend….
Let me speak to Dr Nik to see how complicated the surgery is going to be and she’ll get back to you, OK. I know you will be in good hands.
Thanks again!

Dear Dr. Fauziah,
I know I needed quite a number of procedures to get my teeth right but what concerns me is not pain but the fear of throwing up halfway. I have what you call as sensitive reflexive gag. I remembered doing crowning and the dentist having to put some sort of denture-like mould to get a mould of my front tooth (the one that needs to be crowned). I felt like throwing up the whole time. It makes the dentist very upset. I’m also very upset as I want to fix my teeth but my fear of throwing up and reflexive gag is stopping me. Can I know if there is any way to help me? I really would like to correct my teeth.
p/s: I have a phobia of throwing up and I dislike mint taste.
Thank you so much Dr. Fauziah. Your attention is appreciated with utmost gratitude.

Hi Sile,
Now is the best time to do your bleaching! We now have a special until 28 Feb where the Zoom system which was RM1600 is now RM990!
As to braces or crowning … it depends on your gigi! Braces betulkan the aturan of all your teeth at one go but takes 2 years at least. It costs RM5000 in all for the braces but this cost is split over the 2 years.
You only pay RM1500 first then RM200 every time you come to change the bands every 4 to 6 weeks …. this means the cost is paid in installments and even if the appointments have to continue because your gig is ‘degil’ … there are no additional costs!
Crowning corrects individual teeth so I am not sure if braces or crowning is best for you until I see you in person.
Why not call Idayu or Hapiza for an appointment and I’ll be happy to discuss what would be best for you.

Hi Ana,
Unfortunately childhood experiences can set you up for the rest of your adult life!! So yes, you are not alone, I often say 99.9999% of people in the world are scared of the dentists!
To reply your questions:
1. You probable need a scaling that’s all to sort out your bleeding gums…. don’t freak out!
2. Flourosis can be unsightly as it makes the teeth colour patchy, we can have a look and tell you what your treatment options are. The gap it usually an easy-peasy job!
3. Whitening with Zoom! Bleaching System (the best in the market right now in my opinion) costs about RM1600 and takes about an hour. We take a little longer as I do a lot of preliminary treatment thrown in to make sure you are comfortable and the results are great.
Well dear, first thing first … you got to get a proper examination done first of course.
Call Idayu at 03-26911334 or Hapiza at 03-41071591 and they’ll help you make an appointment ASAP!!

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Azlan,
It’s kind of hard to say how much it would cost without seeing you. Sometimes you may need a full composite veneer, sometimes a half veneer, sometimes it’s just a regular filling! As a guide, Composite Veneers are RM250, Half Veneers are RM150 and a simple filling is RM80-100. See what I mean!
The best way is to have the examination done and get a quote!
As to guarantee .. well we guarantee all our work for one month, you usually have eaten all sorts of stuff, hard/soft, crunchy/sticky, hot/cold, etc in a month…. at least 100 meals too … so we figure a month should be more than enough for something to happen.
No we don’t charge a second time within the guarantee period … though it expected that you come in immediately!
Hope to see you soon!

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi,
Composite Veneers boleh tahan lama, yes they last and last but like anything else they need the usual care of cleaning and checking. They do last for years but again it all depends on the tooth itself and the way you eat! Your normal diet should be fine for veneers as long as you don’t decide to start eating stones, bones, metal rods and wood, they should last like any other fillings/restorations.

Salam Dr. Fauziah,
I’m 44, hope not too late! I wore braces when I was 11 but took them out after 6 months due to pain. My teeth is ugly, berlapis dibwh dan bertaring dikiri dan kanan atas. Before putting on the braces, doctor pulled out 4 teeth, 2 top & 2 bottom on both sides. You can imagine how ugly right doctor?
Last week I accompanied my colleague, she had her bridge fixed at a dentist in Damansara, the doctor persuaded me to check my teeth. Looking at my friend, I asked opinion on bridge. He said bridge will only cover the missing teeth, costly for me coz i have to fix all 4 sides and yet no difference at the front and bottom or to my smile. He advised me to use braces. But then, braces will take 3 years! Id be losing my all teeth by then.
I saw your website today and immediately called Idayu for appt. I’m a bit scared and shy to see you. What’s your general advise based on what I mentioned, Dr.? I would want to be prepared mentally, physically and financially when I see you next week. Looking at your patients make over really gives me the urge to meet you. Please help. Thank you.

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Siti,
Thanks for the email and comment!
4 wisdom teeth at a go usually would involve general anaesthetic and even some hospital stay … I don’t know if you would want to do that. I personally wouldn’t want that on me!
I usually remove the upper and lower wisdom tooth on ONE side at a time. This allows you to eat quite normally using the side that was not operated on and thus the whole experience would be quite good. This means I remove both wisdom teeth on the right or left side first, then after a few days (at least) the two on the corresponding side.
We do the minor oral surgery using only local anaesthesia as this really is enough. However for those who want sedation, I refer them to my colleague Dr Wong, who has his clinic well set up to handle sedation.
The cost of Minor Oral Surgery per tooth is RM600 in Klinik Pergigian Fauziah. This includes the surgery itself, diagnostic xrays, all necessary medications and the follow up treatment…. it’s a complete package!
If I am not wrong, Dr Wong charges about RM900 for each wisdom tooth surgery with sedation.
Please let me know if you need any other information or need to have an appointment. And do thank Farhaini for the referral on my behalf!

Hi Zuraini,
I was not in the clinic today as I gave myself the day off after a hectic two months!
My staff was there though so it may be you called before 9:30 am or after 5 pm or during their lunch break.
No worries though as I am glad you have set up an appointment. My apologies to you for having to call several times, on the Team’s behalf.
It will be great to see you soon so we can discuss how I can help you!
They gave you an ideal time as we can discuss into the ‘lunch break’ so you can relax and ask all the questions you want … we can even do a mock-up where I show you how you would look using removable fillings OK.
So relax and let us both look forward to Tuesday!

Nur,
Just come in and have a chat OK …
I understand scared patients! We even have a code for them so we know patients like you need extra tender loving attention by the whole Team … the code is an open secret! We mark the registration card VNP which stands for Very Nervous Patient!!!
If you fall into the very rare category of VVNP, so what! At least coming in for a chat is the start in the direction of complete health right.
I even treat Special Needs Patients though I don’t write about it. These are patients who can hardly communicate so to them the entire world is a scary place … let alone a place where they have to lie in a chair and let a stranger look into their face. All they need is a lot of patience and loving kindness. That you will find in the bucket loads at our clinics.
So come in and take your time … we want to win the War against your Fear … not just win the battle to do your teeth.

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Sasha,
Thanks for writing even after making your appointment. I have been so busy these past months that keeping up with the blog has been such a challenge! But seeing all the comments that have been backlogged and the numerous makeovers I have YET to post has made me determined to answer comments at least twice a week!
To answer your question … to prepare for the braces to move in your teeth the dentist would have taken out 4 teeth … one on each side of your upper and lower jaws. Putting in bridges to replace the missing teeth just puts you back to square one … with nothing done to correct the fronts.
Perhaps veneers would help .. I can’t say right now without looking at you, I really need to do that first, dear. But I can tell you it won’t cost you an arm and a leg … really. And the best part is, it won’t be painful either .. so there’s nothing to do but relax OK. Just come in and we’ll talk and work out a plan next week.

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Nina,
There are several types of dentures.
Generally patients either choose a metal base (which costs RM550) or a plastic base (RM150). The choice has a lot to do with comfort, the number of teeth being replaced, whether it is the upper teeth or lower teeth etc etc.
As to the teeth themselves they are RM40 each for a very good quality acrylic tooth. This means it is easy to calculate the costs once you decide which base you want!
However … since your teeth and how the end result is so so personal, I always encourage patients to come in and discuss all the options first …. you’d be surprised at what is possible these days!
So Nina, let’s chat next week when you come in and I can help you decide on what would be best for you!
See you soon!

Nur Says:
Hi doctor,
its me, the VNP or is it VVNP?
when i first come in to your clinic, its not the physical pain that brought me to your front door. i think, i am in denial. i called it self realization, just to make me feel better. but i have to agree with you, there’s also emotional pain. being surrounded by the future dentist as a best friend you know..THAT feeling. (though they never say anything about it)
ohwell, you’ve killed my imaginary Dentist who is wearing white coat, thick glasses, unfriendly, and armed with a dentist drill, not to mention 2 nurse on the left and the right. i am not sure if they were smiling tho, coz they wore a mask and ready to drill into my mouth.
people fear what they dont know, and i asked a lot of question when i am nervous. (if you noticed) it’s easier for me when i know what’s happening IN there. when i was in high school, once i sat on the chair, the nurse start mumbling and scolding me. And before i know, she start drilling my teeth.
if she did the counting like you, 1,2,3,4,5, (barely) 6 and then stop, ill never bite her finger. i swear.
if someone asked me, if they should go and see a dentist like you, i’d say just do it! you’ll love the feeling after-like clicking on the Refresh button. reborn.
am i winning in this war?
thank you Doctor, and the whole-friendly-team.

oh, have you talked to Rashid’s mother? because i asked him and he says he’s not sure so you can call his mother
alright.. thanks doctor.. have fun in Bandung on May

Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Petra,
All we need to do before the procedure is to take the xrays which will take about a minute or two. The surgery itself takes only about half an hour but I spend some time explaining what to expect and answer any questions you have so the whole procedure will take about an hour in all.
Having your mother around will be great as she can fuss over you!!
By the way…. happy birthday! I got a message on Facebook from Rashid and told him I placed a post on your profile wishing you too.

Hi Nur,
Well I think we can say you are definitely winning the war against your fear of dentists!! You certainly won the battle to do your teeth and twice too! So I guess we can drop you from VVNP (very, very nervous patient) to the VNP category! And looks like you probably won’t even fall into that category very soon!!
I think you can do away with the idea of the stereotype dentist that you picture in your head, yes? That is the typical dentist from the Mr Bean series! Ha! Ha! and certainly not the ones in our clinics.
One thing you can be assured of, the whole Team wants you to say goodbye (and good riddance!) to your fear of dentists and we’ll support you all the way!
See you soon Nur … and thanks for the great comment!

Hi Rachel,
We use the Zoom! Whitening kit together with the Zoom! Advanced Plasma Light in the clinic. It’s the most advanced procedure on the market and has the best results.
We currently have a promotion, too. The procedure is RM1700
and from now until December 17 2010, you will get
1. a full scaling free (worth RM100),
2. the option of 4 15-minute cycles (that’s an added boost from the usual 3 cycles),
3. the Before and After photos in a specially designed Makeover Album (I don’t know of any other clinic that gives this),
4. a Brite Smile toothpaste that stops new stains from taking hold on your newly whitened teeth (worth RM80 and only available in selected dentist’s offices)
5. AND a gift voucher that you can give away to someone so they can get RM100 off their own Zoom! Whitening.
It’s a pretty good deal and will be available only until the time above. The same Zoom! Whitening I have been told is going for AUS$2000 in Sydney … that’s probably the reason why I get so many Aussie tourists who book in for a whitening whilst they are here.
Please call Amy at 03-26911334 or Hapiza at 03-41071591 as we need to schedule in about 90 minutes for the procedure as we give you all the extra free treatment ( … other dentists do only 3 cycles so usually it will take 45 minutes)
Hope this helps and we’ll see you soon!

Hi Amy,
Sometimes there is a relapse of the movement done with braces. This could be due to several factors, an ‘incompetent’ lip (a short upper lip where the upper lip does not close easily against the lower lip) or a rather large tongue etc etc. I really cannot tell until I examine you as everyone is different!
I would suggest you come in for an examination to find out what are and discuss your options. Perhaps you could call Amy at 03-26911334 or Hapiza at 03-41071591 for an appointment? At least at the end of the visit you’d have some idea about what is available and how much it will cost, OK.

Hi Rara,
Orthognathic surgery involves moving your jaw to the ideal position by surgery. It’s a major surgery and usually the braces are done first to position the teeth and when it’s all ready, the surgery is done to match the lower jaw with the upper.
I had only just spoken to a patient last Saturday (one of twins with the same problem) who had done her surgery after having her teeth repositioned first in a Government hospital. Her mother was relating to me what happened and their experience with the Government hospitals and the private hospitals. I have asked her to allow me to write about this and perhaps feature their experience in a post. Her main complaint was that she felt the doctors did not explain things fully to them.
As a result of this I really feel you should perhaps come in just to chat. I would like to spend the time to explain things fully and perhaps link you to my patient…. she comes in for her regular check-ups and fillings now. Too many times, I feel, patients don’t get all their questions answered and choose (or not choose) blindly and then feel upset.
I really don’t mind and will take the time to talk to you as it is a big step, OK. Tell Amy at 03-26911334 that you have written to me about orthognatic surgery and I asked you to come in to talk … ask her for a lunch time appointment so I have the time to answer all the questions over a cup of coffee with you.
See you soon!

Hi dr. Fauziah,
I have been wanting to do some work on my teeth for the longest time. Problem is 1) I have a phobia with dentist (sorryyyy) ii) i have a phobia with dentist : (.
Lately though I am becoming more conscious that my teeth is not as white as I would like them and of course I should have had braces done yonks ago. My parents couldn’t afford them back then…so I left it.
HELP!!
Posted on November 4th, 2010 at 10:51 am
Dr Fauziah Says:
Hi Kitkat,
Well, you are one of 99.999% of the population of the world who are afraid of dentists!! Thank goodness most still take charge of their phobia and still come in for a check-up only to discover dentists are people too (LOL) and most dentists can be quite nice!!!
But seriously, my dad is a dentist and because of that I guess, I personally didn’t have a phobia of dentists (kind of hard to be that afraid of your father!) … that didn’t stop me from feeling nervous whenever my Dad would say,”OK, since I have a free moment, it’s your turn for a cleanup!” when I used to follow him to work during my school holidays!! Ha! Ha!
So yes, I understand the feeling of being under someone’s mercy when sitting in the dental chair …. I guess that’s why we take extra time to make sure the patients are totally at ease before we treat them … sometimes all you need is for the dentist to spend some time with you first and be present that you are nervous!
Having said that, Kitkat, to actually do something about your smile (I read somewhere that the first thing someone sees when they first meet you is your smile!) you only need to come in for a check up to find out what you can do about it! To be treated or not is your call after that, right?
Come in and meet us first … get a feel about the clinic and the dentist … take your time to choose who to trust … you’d be surprised when it is much easier and much less scary when you actually meet us.
Don’t let it take over and stop you from being the best that you can be!
Fear is a four-letter word!

Hi Dr Fauziah,
I just went for fillings and i notice that the dentist filled my molars with amalgam, but i am not very used to it bucause of the silver colour looks different with the original colour of my teeth. However, according to what others told me, amalgam fillings are stronger and long lasting as compare to composite fillings. So i am struggling whether i shoud replace it with white composite fillings as composite fillings look nicer compare to amalgam fillings.
Do you mind to tell me under what circumstances you will adopt amalgam fillings on your patients’ teeth or under what circumstances you will encourege your patient to choose amalgam fillings instead of composite fillings? Or perhaps you will always encourage your patients to choose composite fillings instead of amalgam fillings?
In your opinions, any professional advices/opinions you can suggest to me base on what i have written above?
Thank you for your time and your advices to me would be much appreciated.

Hi Niza,
I take it you mean Fairuz the bride-to-be. Well, each Composite veneer is RM250 so to close the gap I did one on each tooth on either side.
In Fairuz’ case I also needed to balance the enlarged front teeth by slightly enlarging the next teeth too or else the front two will look much too large!! So in total Fairuz needed 4 composite veneers. Not all cases are the same, usually I do not need to do 4 but I certainly will do at least 2 to close the gap.
Call Amy at 03-26911334 and she will set you an appointment. I usually will take about 45 minutes but as I spend some time listening to what you want to do, she will book you in for an hour.

Hi Syed,
Kalau rawatan akar atau endodontic treatment sudah di lakukan, you definitely need to do your crown as the tooth is dead and will become brittle.
To answer your question … a porcelain bonded crown is RM800 and the titanium post that supports the root is RM100, so the whole crown and post will be RM900.
Please call Amy at 03-26911334 or Hapiza at 03-41071591 and they’ll book you in. You need to say you are doing a crown with a post as we need at least 90 minutes to do everything including making a temporary crown for you whilst the actual crown is being made (it take one week for the technician to make it).
You will be fitted a temporary crown for the week in between the next appointment! So you need not worry about how it looks or feel whilst it is being made.
See you soon!!

Hi Wong,
Actually I have not done an amalgam (silver coloured) filling for more than 6 years!! I do have the titration machine in the clinic but it’s disconnected and in storage!
The reason why is because I feel that advancements in dental materials have made amalgam fillings almost redundant. They used to be the material of choice when I first graduated (ahm… that was back in 1986 … yep, I have been a dentist for 24 years!!) as amalgams were far superior in strength than composite (tooth coloured) fillings.
But now there are composites that equal and even surpass the strengths of amalgams! Some composites are made solely for use in back teeth!!
The only time (and I mean only) i would suggest amalgams is when it is impossible to get a dry field to fill the tooth … as I said I haven’t done amalgams for more than 6 years … which simply means it is rare indeed that a dry field is impossible!
Besides, in my clinics we even give you a “money-back/ we’ll re-do it for free” guarantee on our work for one whole month (!) which is more than enough time for the fillings if done incorrectly (or material choice in incorrect) to fail and come out. This is how seriously we are that our fillings are done properly the first time!!
As to whether you should replace them … well I seldom tell people to replace them if the amalgams are done properly unless they really are obvious … this may happen after a few years as unfortunately (another reason why I stopped doing amalgams) amalgam fillings tend to leach out a blackish stain onto the natural tooth surface and sometimes the gums, making the teeth look grey and “old”.
Hope this helps … I would suggest you just come in for a check-up and I can advise you based on what I see in your mouth. Call Amy at 03-26911334 and she’ll book you in.

However, i have a stained tooth that i would like to fix with veneer/whitening before putting on my braces.
Is it OK to have veneer and whitening done prior to my braces adventure?
Looking forward to your reply and thank you in advance.

Hi Dr Fauziah,
I just came across your blog as I was searching more information about my current teeth situation. By looking at the pictures and reading the comments above, I believe you have done a good job.
I wore braces 2 years ago, and recently my plastic retainer was broken. Since then, I did not wear my retainer for 2 weeks. I realiZed that there is a gap between the upper jaw front teeth which i think is quite obvious. Any other possible ways to solve my problem? I do not wish to wear braces again just because of the 2 teeth problem.
Thanks.

Hi Lee,
I can understand not wanting to go through orthodontic treatment again. However you do have the option to either go back to your orthodontist to see if he/she has a solution or you could come in for a quick consult to see if Composite veneers will do the job.
Usually a small gap is very easy to close up with veneers and will take less than an hour. The main thing is to see why the gap reappeared and see what steps may need to be taken to ensure it does not open up some more.
Please call Amy at 03-26911334 if you’d like me to have a look.

Hi Bucky,
Yes, whitening can be done prior to having braces put on. You may want to defer any cosmetic work as the teeth are about to be moved by the braces.
The whitening takes about 90 minutes (actually the usual programme is 3 15-minute cycles which means it usually takes 45 minutes) but in our clinics we do the scaling and cleaning of general stains first, a very careful “no pink policy” where we isolate your teeth and then we do the extra 4th cycle to make sure the whitening process is really successful. Hence, at the end you may not want to to the extraction at the same visit, purely because it was a long visit though technically there is really nothing stopping you.
Yes, whitening can be done on tetracycline stained teeth. I have no idea how badly stained they are so maybe it would be best that you come in for a quick check up first to see what are your treatment options.
Please call Amy at 03-26911334 and she’ll sort out a time that will suit you!
See you soon!

As to your wisdom tooth, well, you just got to keep it really clean by brushing carefully, flossing the tooth and possibly gargling with either a medicated mouthwash or at least salt water (mix a teaspoon of table salt in half a glass of water). You’d best see a dentist to make sure the tooth is coming out properly too!

Hi Dr. Fauziah
I was surfing and found a link of your website. It was a great surprise. I really want to go ahead with composit veneer treatment. I have two front teeths which are raised. I live in Australia and seriously thinking about to come to Malaysia for this instant treatment. But I want to ask can I still chew things I mean food, meat etc? I guess I can otherwise there is no point to do that. Well I answered my question. How much does it cost? I was reading your answers and found you charge RM 250.
Also I want change the color of my teeths I want to have teeth whitening treatment before composite veneer. I don’t drink alcohol and don’t smoke but drink Coke and coffee occasionally but drink tea regularly.
I can send you a picture of my teeths if you want look as they are misaligned but my major concern is two front teeths coming towards outside.

Hi Syed,
Yes, you can chew things as usual. I don’t think you need to change your diet much!!
Zoom! Whitening system is available in Australia though I believe it costs something like AUS$2000! That’s quite incredible given the very same programme is done here for RM1700 … and you get the extras like a scaling, the special toothpaste to keep the stains off, the makeover album and of course the extra whitening cycle, too.
We get many patients from Australia who come in for their treatment these days (Thank you Tony Fernandez and AirAsia) I guess it’s because “Anyone can fly” we now can say “Anyone can have a makeover!!”
Please mail me my photos and I will give you an idea of what is possible. Please mail me at fay@drfauziah.com, OK

Hi Shasha,
Ya, Composite veneer adalah sejenis tampalan yang di lapiskan di atas gigi original … tetapi itu “over simplification” of the whole process. Sebenarnya, banyak lagi perlu di buat dan di pertimbangkan bila buat composite veneer.
Ia bertahan … dan seperti apa sahaja, akan bertahan jika di jaga …. it is a specialised filling which normally costs RM250.
Your question is a common question, yet a very difficult one to answer. It’s like answering a question like ‘How long will my Proton Ixora last?’ …. a very difficult question to answer totally honestly! I will not lie by telling you it will last forever.

Hi Daous,
Yes, it is a common problem when dentists don’t match the tooth colour closely when they fill in the gaps. If you look closely at the photos of the teeth we have done, you can’t tell what we did… and that is a lot because we match the colour very, very carefully.
Yes, you can whiten after the fillings but usually it makes sense to whiten them first, then do the composite fillings!
Hope this helps answer your questions.

I would like to know the charge for composite veneer treatment for my tooth. I was reading all your answer and you charge RM200-250 for one tooth. Means my treatment cost around RM1k exist? I really want fits my budget before I do these treatment. Is there any discount you give if my gaps not so far to each other? My tooth is growing in one layer and orderly, means don’t have other problem except these gaps! Other question is, I heard that when doing veneer treatment, it’s like doing whitening treatment! It’s true? If I’m doing veneer, can I request to cover my tooth with whiter composite rather my natural yellow teeth. (so it can cut my budget
). And these veneer teeth will last for many years?? Don’t suggest me to use braces for the best way. Lastly, really thanks for your committed!

Dear dr,
I’m currently in great pain. Its hard to swallow food. Let me tell you a lil bit history of this pain.
A month ago, my dentist told me my lower righ wisdom tooth is impacted and later need to be removed. besides, its already affected the other tooth beside it as it have cavities. Since that time my gums around the wisdom tooth swollen and i’m suspected for dengue, he cannot simply extract the wisdom tooth and perform gum scaling to reduce the swollen. Thankfully it works.
After that i’ll extra care my teeth. Last week, it maybe because I try to reach the half appeared wisdom tooth, i over brush it . I dont know whether this is the real cause of my current problem
There the pain slowly started. i believe my gums around the wisdom tooth swollen . could be tooth abscess?(i dont know its true or not. just read it through internet). I barely cant open my mouth and my throat quite hurt. at first i thought it might related to my normal tonsilitis problem that might become the cause of my wisdom tooth pain.
Since i’m working with the bank, yesterday ,I’ve visited different dentist which is the bank’s panel clinic. He never asks me thoroughly my problem, and he said he try to put a meds on the cavities area on the tooth beside the wisdom tooth and lets see whether those tooth suitable for filling or not. he did prescribe me with erythromycin 400mg and ponstan. He said if the pain dont reduce by the end of 5th day, he will suggest me to go to the specialist. His meds does help me to reduce the pain. However, i still awake at night as the pain come again. Should i wait for 5 days to see the result or i can start go to other dentist. This tooth ache really affect my job quality.

Hi Nurjan,
Sorry for the late reply … the clinic has been super busy!!
Yes, if you need 4 composite veneers I charge RM250 each hence it would cost RM1K. I charge the same whether it is a large gap or otherwise as the work is the same!
Whitening is when we use a process to whiten all your front teeth so they look whiter and brighter. The veneers can be a lighter colour than the original but it all depends on how much darker the other teeth are (!!) or else the over all smile may look quite strange! We’ll probably match the best colour for you.
To answer whether the veneers last … well, they are specialised fillings which are bonded to your teeth, Every precaution is taken to make sure they are placed such that they do not shear off but you got to remember they are fillings! That is why they are fast (they only take a few minutes compared to 2 visits and a week in between for crowns), painless (we only lightly prepare your teeth unlike the much more extensive work with crowns) and affordable.
It’s so, so, so hard to say it will last forever and ever, because so much depends on factors like how you take care of your teeth, if you accidentally eat a stone, how your teeth are tilted etc, etc, etc. but I have been doing this for so, so long (more than 10 years) and I can say I don’t have to do repairs for people every single day!!
Hope this answers your questions. Why don’t you call Amy at 03-26911334 for an appointment to speak with me/ have a check up and I can advise you better when I actually see your smile.
See you soon!

admin Says:
Hi Mas,
It sure seems that the source of your pain may be from the wisdom tooth. The tooth next to it may also be contributing to some of your pain as well, if that also has got a cavity.
A tilted wisdom tooth will cause a lot of pain. Not only is it painful as it tries to come out (the path it is coming out is blocked)it also will probably be a food trap. Food debris often gets caught under the gum flap. More bad news is, if that part is next to another molar, it can start a carious lesion (hole) on the adjacent tooth.
My advice is to see the dentist soon and get them to do an x-ray. The x-ray will easily help the dentist see if there is a food trap, if there is space for the tooth to come out naturally, if the next tooth has been affected and how bad everything is.
Perhaps the dentist gave you the antibiotics to help the swelling go down and treat the immediate infection, as you can hardly open your mouth! This will be necessary to take the xray and to do the surgery. He/she probably has asked you to go back for a review after the course of antibiotics have finished, but please, if you are still in pain go see him/her again sooner as he/she may be able to prescribe something else that may work better!
You need to be as infection-free as possible before surgery for several reasons:
1. an infected area will take longer to heal after surgery,
2. an infected area bleeds more than a non-infected area because of the larger blood supply in the swollen area … this is the body’s natural way to flush the area with white blood cells to combat the germs
3. an infected area may contain pus which is acidic and will cause our alkaline analgesic injection to not work or not work well.
All these are very good reasons to make sure you are well enough for the surgery first!
The surgery itself is not a major one … believe me! Most impacted wisdom tooth surgeries are really quite simple and can be performed by any dental surgeon. Only very few impacted teeth need to be done by a specialist and the best way is to take an x-ray to see if a visit to a specialist is necessary!
If you’d like you can see us for the x-ray if your dentist does not have the facility in his clinic. It just costs RM50 and will take a few minutes. Tell Amy (03-216911334) that you have communicated with me on the blog and I have asked you to come in. We are rather busy right now as the year is ending but I am sure we can squeeze you in.
Just tell Amy you are in severe pain and we have communicated, OK.
By the way, you could read a little about Wisdom Tooth Surgery on the Discussion Page on Dentist Malaysia. Click here.
Hope this helps!

It’s really kind of difficult to say what can be done and the cost without seeing you in person. Closing a gap may be done with a full composite veneer which is RM250 on each side of the gap or may even be done with half composite veneers which is RM150 on each side of the gap. There so many, many other things that have to taken into consideration before either treatment is chosen!

Hi Anne,
Have you tried Zoom! Whitening? It’s the best in the market right now … I’ve used Rembrandt Whitening System, Brite Smile and many others but the results from Zoom! has been pretty good and predictable.
Another alternative is to veneer your teeth. Composite veneers are good and a cheaper option as compared to porcelaine veneers. Composites are RM250 for a full veneer and will do the job provided that they are done really neatly and polished to a good shine. Porcelaine of course are the more stable (but much more expensive method as they can be up to RM1500 each depending on the type of porcelaine) option as they are like crowns and have to be made in a technician’s laboratory and cemented to your teeth.
You probably may want to do composite veneers first then when your budget allows, do the porcelaine if you really want to. You usually will need to do the 6 upper front teeth (from canine to canine) that’s all … usually the lowers don’t have to be done unless the dark stain is really bad.
I would say the best course of action is to come in for a check-up and discuss what is available given your individual concerns and budgets. We can just talk first … don’t worry … as I really would rather you get all your questions answered before you do anything!
Please call Amy at 03-216911334 or Hapiza at 03-41071591 and she’ll sort out a time for you. Tell them you need an hour minimum as you want to discuss things first OK.

Hi Ola,
Braces usually cost about RM5500 which is spread out over 2 years which is the time you usually need to complete the treatment. The initial payment is about RM1500 which is when the brackets are placed on your teeth, then you pay RM200 during each subsequent visit when the orthodontist changes the rubber rings which provide the gentle forces to move the teeth. This usually is every 4-6 weeks, and will take another 20 months/visits.
By then your treatment would usually be complete or almost complete and you need not pay more. The orthodontist then stabilises the teeth in its new position with a retainer which you will need to use for 6 month (or longer depending on the complexity).
Please call Hapiza at 03-41071591/90 and say you want to see the orthodontist Dr Mohd Shah. He normally charges RM30 for a consultation and will answer any of your questions then. He is at the clinic every Friday and Saturday afternoons.
Hope this clarifies!

Hi Zeta,
Of course it never is too late to have a beautiful smile! Perhaps to help you get over your fear you should just come in for a chat and meet us … remember always you are not alone as 99.999% of the population of the world are afraid of the dentist … the rest probably pretend not to be afraid!
Please call Amy at 03-26911334 and say you wrote to me and that you are very afraid and she will set you up with an appointment around lunch time so I can spend extra time with you, OK.

Hi Elaine,
Composite Veneers are usually a one-off process … by this I mean, you usually don’t need to keep fixing it, however I am saying this without looking at your particular case, OK.
Composite veneers are fillings after all, and your smile will need the usual bi-annual maintainence check-ups and clean-ups.
Why not come in for a consultation and I’ll give you your options so you can decide on what you want to do. Call Amy at 03-26911334 and she’ll set up the appointment with you.

Most times two simple veneers are all you need. Why not come in and I’ll be happy to do a mock-up … that is actually do the veneers without preparing your teeth so they won’t stick and can be removed easily … this is a great way for you to see how it will look with the veneers closing your gap and you can decide then!
Please call Amy at 03-26911334 or Hapiza at 03-41071591 and she’ll set you up with an appointment. Remember to say you mailed me on the blog and I said I will do the mock first so she will put in sufficient time … I probably need 90 mins as I’m going to do it twice

Hi Nina,
By a deep bite I understand that you mean your upper front teeth cover most of your lower teeth and are biting on your palate. If that is so braces are one of your options but it may be best you make an appointment just to have an examination so I can check it and tell you what can be done for the deep bite.
If it is braces, then the whole treatment is RM5500 which is spread out over the two years of treatment : you probably will need to pay RM1500 when the brackets are placed on your teeth and then as you come in each 4-6 weeks for the adjustments and changing of the bands, you pay RM200 per visit for the next 20 months.
If your treatment takes longer than 21 months, and you have paid the whole amount (RM1500 + RM200X20) you don’t need to pay any more for the subsequent visits. I understand that the orthodontist (I don’t do ortho myself but have a colleague who comes in 3 times a week) charges extra if he needs to replace broken brackets and they cost RM50.
I hope this answers all your questions but please feel free to drop in and I will be happy to explain it further and answer any other questions you may have. Please call Amy at 03-26911334 and we’ll set up an appointment.

MK Says:
Dear Dr,
For diastema that is caused by labial frenum, after undergoing frenectomy, is it possible to do teeth bonding/veneer (or any other alternatives to close the gap) on the same day?
Or should one wait for a week for the gum to heal, before proceeding with closing the gap?
Thank you!
Posted on March 25th, 2011 at 11:40 pm
MK Says:
I forgot to add, how much do you charge for frenectomy?
Posted on March 25th, 2011 at 11:41 pm
admin Says:
Hi MK,
By a labial frenum I get you mean the muscle attachment which joins your lip to the palate which is, in your case, over large and causing your front two teeth to have grown apart, right? (I am describing this for any other person who is reading this so they too understand what you mean by frenum
)
Yes, you are correct … if the frenum is too large then the muscle in it will push apart any bonding/veneer/crown/braces done to close the gap which means after some time the gap will reappear!
So … as you rightly describe … a frenectomy which is removal of the muscle attachment needs to be done first.
The trouble is after the frenectomy the gap still remains and your question is whether the gap can be closed immediately …. my answer is yes!
There is no real reason to not close the gap with composite veneers first except that the composite might get stained by any bleeding immediately after the frenctomy …. but well, I say, so what! I would do the composite veneers immediately after stopping the bleeding and a week or so later, see you again and re-do it to make sure that the composite veneers do not discolour easily.
You could always opt to do porcelaine veneers or crowns after the area heals but the main thing is to get your smile looking great.
Personally, I have no problems re-doing work a week later as it really is so easy, it is painless and I usually take less than 30 minutes anyway!
So, to answer you second question, should you wait a week … not really … you usually are asked to wait because it’s difficult for the dentist to make sure the blood doesn’t get in the way.
… so it the dentist can do it and the dentist will redo it if need be … then why not? Just go for it!!
BTW Please check out this post Ellysa’s Beautiful Smile.
Ellysa came in with an extra tooth between her front teeth which I removed and closed the gap with composite veneers immediately after her extraction! Now that’s even more challenging to stop bleeding and do the veneers compared to a frenectomy, believe me, and it looks pretty good!
Her challenge to me was to “make three teeth look like two”! … now that’s a challenge indeed!

Hi Wawa,
They both needed Composite Veneers to close the gaps. Each Composite Veneer costs RM250 which means to close the gap, both teeth on the sides of the gap has to be veneered.. if not then one tooth will look bigger than the other! This means to close a gap it probably will cost about RM500.
The best part is it only took less than an hour which means they went home immediately with the new beautiful smile!
Call Amy at 03-326911334 and tell her you want to discuss doing a makeover … that way she can put you down for an appointment so you can find out how much you actually will need to spend AND also get to see what you will look like with the new smile because I can do a mock for you.
This way you get to see what it will look BEFORE you decide to do the makeover and get to know how much it will cost.
Remember to tell Amy that you want to discuss the makeover OK … that way she will know what to do.

admin Says:
Hi Fizah,

Posted on June 17th, 2011 at 11:13 am
admin Says:
Hi Munah,
To close the gaps is easy with composite veneers … I would probably (without actually seeing your teeth first though!) say the more cost effective way and immediately get results, is to do it this way. A Composite veneer costs RM250 each.
More importantly, you may want to get to the bottom of why they seem to be getting bigger! The most common reason is that you have growing calculus (karang gigi) which is steadily growing larger, under the gum margin, and pushing them apart. This simply means you need to do a good scaling and then maintain the gum health closely. This allows the gum swelling to go down, any gum pockets reduce so food does not stagnate and become calculus again too fast. Please check out http://www.drfauziah.com/common-problems/ . I wrote a simple description here.
Perhaps come in for a check up so I can advise you better on whether braces or closing the gaps with composites would be better. Please call Amy at 03-26911334, this is the clinic in Menara EON Bank which is in KL City, near Maju Junction and Sogo area.

Bila saya tanya Dr, mereka kata kalo buat veneer, gigi saya akan jadi besar sedikit, dan takut saya merasa kurang selesa..mereka kata akan cuba refer pada Dr.ortho sama ada mereka setuju nak buat braces utk saya..atau saya terpaksa guna cara kedua iaitu buat veneer jugak..tp saya kena tunggu 4-5weeks sehingga gusi saya benar-benar sembuh..Kalau pakai braces ambil masa bertahun-tahun kan, kalau bole hari ni jugak saya nak tgk gigi saya cantik.. Help me Dr.Fauziah..Jika kos tidak terlalu mahal, saya berminat utk buat dgn Dr je . Thx

Hi Yana,
Why don’t you datang aja for a consultation dan biar saya buat a mock-up… ini satu-satu cara yang paling mudah, baik dan tak sakit langsung supaya kami berdua … yes, you and I … to see if composite veneers akan nampak terlalu besar!
The mock-up veneers boleh di tanggal balik as I do not prepare the teeth at all … and saya buatnya for free too
At least after the mock-up, you will be able to know for sure that the composite veneers will (or will not) look nice, kan!

admin Says:
Hi Reese,
Actually I don’t charge for my consultation though technically I am supposed to by law!
I still don’t though and I guess as long as no one reports me I should get away with it indefinitely! Hahaha!
The mock-ups are great as both you and I get an idea of how much work needs to be done and if the results are going to be good. The only thing is in a mock-up, I do not remove/prepare your teeth but only add on the composite (yes, it’s a waste of material but I figure the benefits of seeing the possible results make up for that), so any little adjustments like small shaves have to be visualised.
Usually the ‘fangs’ need a full veneer … it’s something to do with building up a nicer shape … kind of difficult to explain without you seeing it in action.
Pros and cons, eh … well, in a nutshell, I guess the pros would be:
1. Cost .. composite veneers are after all fillings hence the appearance is largely dependant on the skill of the dentist but therefore it’s a fraction of the cost of a porcelain veneer which has to be prepared in the lab .. this means cost includes technician’s fee (which is rather high), cost of impression material (they’re also extremely expensive).
2. Tooth removal: … again composite veneers are fillings hence only a little bit of tooth is prepared … we actually only roughen the tooth surface and then place the composites using very, very good bonding material (that is actually the most expensive). Porcelain veneers require atleast 1mm removal most times to allow for the bulk of the porcelain and the bonding material … even more is removed if the porcelain is bonded to metal for strength … so you end up with much smaller/less tooth which is then covered by the porcelain veneer/crown.
3. Time: .. again, composite veneers are completely done in the clinic in that one and the same visit! Porcelain veneers/crowns need to have a temporary made to cover/protect the prepared teeth whilst you wait for the technician to do the porcelain veneer (and metal backing, if the case need be)
Having said all this, I still do recommend porcelain work, either veneers/crowns/bridges … it all depends on the individual case, right! If a beautiful smile can be created by composite, then why not?
The only thing is porcelain is strong, the colour is more stable (some patients may have darkened composite veneers after several years) but then since it is so easy, fast, kind to the teeth and affordable, I always look to see if the results can be achieved with composites first.
Whew!!! Hope all that I wrote here helped and not served to confuse you instead.
The bottom line is this …
Everyone is different…
The best way is to get a dentist to see what you, in all your uniqueness, need … and then,
… discuss all the treatment options you have and only then can you make a decision.
Call Amy at 03-26911334 and she’ll get you an appointment, OK
See you soon!

I have 2 gaps for the upper teeth, and 2 gaps for the lower teeth. Does that mean that I will need 8 composite veneers? Will the estimates be like RM250×8, assuming all need full veneers? Can this be done within 1/2 day, after the consultation? Plus both the rows of the upper teeth and lower teeth (top surfaces) are not that smooth, these surfaces can be made smooth too? How much would this costs?
Posted on July 18th, 2011 at 11:00 pm
admin Says:
Hi FC,
Yes, most likely you will need 8 veneers in all as I usually need to veneer each side of a gap to make the teeth look even.
You are also correct with the cost, assuming that you do need full veneers.
It does take about an hour or so, depending on the amount of “sculpting” and polishing needed as the veneers are crafted to look natural, so if you give an allowance of 1/2 day, that’s plenty of time.
I understand that when you say ‘the lower top surfaces’ you mean the biting surface … us dentist call it the incisal surface … well, I usually don’t charge to even them out! After all, it goes towards the over all beautiful smile!
Please call Amy at 03-26911334 and she’ll sort out the appointment for you. As the Fasting Month is around the corner, the schedule eases up a little, so we’d probably be able to block off plenty of time for you pretty fast!

Hi Dr,
I was wondering if you’d be able to treat halitosis? I’m not sure if I have it, but I think I do.
Thanks
Posted on July 29th, 2011 at 12:01 pm
admin Says:
Hi Nicky,
)
Halitosis simply means bad breath. The most common reason is because you either have
a. a lot of calculus (not the mathematics kind
b. there are big cavities
c. there are a lot of spaces and corners where food can get stuck, like when there are uneven teeth
d. or a combination of the above.
I notice this is especially so when your saliva is thick with a lot of mucous rather than if a person has watery saliva.
Other reasons may be because you have a thick layer of mucous on your tongue or if you haven’t had anything to eat or drink so there is a staleness coming from your gut (like when you fast)
The easiest way to get rid of halitosis/ bad breath is to keep your teeth, gums and tongue clean. The best way is to see a dentist to do the initial cleaning then maintain it with regular visits to the dentist.
Halitosis can be embarrassing and very demoralising as people get really conscious about it.
So visit a dentist, Nicky … they’d get you sorted pretty quick!

Closing small gaps are easiest done with composite veneering. You could also close gaps with porcelain veneers but that’s much more costly … just like if you choose to close the gap with crowns.
Crowns would mean a lot of tooth removal though which may be unnecessary for you.
Ask your dentist if he/she meant composite veneering when he/she said they would rebond it if there is no improvement.
Or you could come in for a consultation … just call Amy at 03-26911334 and she’ll set it up.
I hope this has helped you!

Hi doctor,
Wow all the comments here are so impressive i thot i’d drop u a line. My husband has been in pain the past week, he claims it’s his upper molar, probably infected i’m not sure. But whatever it is he says it hurts badly especially when he eats as the food seem to get stuck there. We went to a government clinic yesterday to get it checked but they claim nothing’s wrong, probably a hole and scheduled him for a filling end of the month. He wasnt satisfied (cos its hurting like mad) so we went to a private clinic nearby n the doctor there tried to remove the tooth but failed. He did an x-ray n claimed that surgery is needed cos the tooth seem to be stuck there? Or rather he explained that the 2 “branches” (sorry dono what they’re called) of the tooth doesn’t have the black color in them when seen on the x-ray (am i making sense?) so it means that surgery needs to be done cos he can’t pull it out. And he quoted a bomb cos apparently he needs to call a specialist to do it. I thot of getting a 2nd (or 3rd) opinion..So..here i am..hope u can help.

admin Says:
Hi Intan,
Sorry for the late reply … I would think it would be best for me to see your husband in the clinic. If you have the xray, please bring it along then I can have a look.
If the dentist has already tried to take it out but couldn’t, chances are he still needs to remove it as the forces placed on the tooth would have probably dislodged the tooth already.
As he is in pain, please just come in and tell Amy that you have written to me and I had said to come in immediately. The clinic to go to is the Menara EON bank branch (please check out the location page on this blog for the address and directions)… or call 03-26911334.
I doubt surgery will be neccessary but let me at least have a look to see what is best for him.
See you soon!

Dear Doctor
I am having bad breath for past few years,I visit dentist few times and same problem.I suspect the bad smell come from lower wisdom tooth ,which still in between gum.My wisdom teeth not hurt at all. Please advise any solution. Thanks
Posted on October 17th, 2011 at 3:32 pm
admin Says:
Hi Mantvir,
It sounds like the wisdom tooth is probably the cause of the bad breath.
If the tooth is half in the gums then there may be food stuck under the gum flap which is very hard to brush or rinse out.
So far you are lucky that the wisdom tooth does not hurt, but if left there and there is a food trap … well, eventually you may end up with infection which usually is the cause of much suffering.
Why not come in for a consultation (free) and an xray (RM60) so we can tell for sure if that is the cause of the bad breath.
Call Amy or Farra at 03-26911334 and they’ll set up an appointment for you.
See you soon!

Hi Mimie,
Orthodontics are RM5500 for the whole treatment which is broken into RM1500 when you first get the braces put on then RM200 for each of the next 20 4-6 weekly visits (which is over about 2 years).
We charge RM35 for the consultation with the orthodontist.
I am unsure of the charges for Damon braces, the prices quoted above is for the more common ones.
Please call Hapiza at 03-41071591 which is the Taman Melawati branch and she’d be only too happy to set up the appointment for you.
If you’d like to see me first then call Amy at 03-26911334 and I’ll explain the whole process … I don’t charge a consultation fee.
Hope to hear from you soon!

When I see you I can give you all the options available and explain things clearly for your particular case.

Hope to get your reply soon.

Hi Nurul,
Sorry for the lateness in replying you.
Well to answer your question, root canal for a molar tooth will need approximately 3 visits about a week apart each (eg, every Saturday for 3 weeks).
Our consultant endodontist (that’s the specialist for root canal treatment) uses the latest Recipro System and the whole charges including xrays etcetc is RM1400 for each tooth.
Crowns are RM800 and if they need titanium posts, the posts are RM200 per tooth.
However, I would advise you to get an examination done to see if you really need the root canal treatment … for all you know the pain may be from a leaking filling that would be corrected by the bridge/crown so you needn’t have root treatment done!
Tuesday 29/11/11 at 11:30 am will be fine. I’ll examine you then and discuss the treatment plan.
See you then.

Hi Azreen,
We don’t usually charge a consultation fee for examination … why don’t you just come in and I’ll tell you what are your options. The Composite Veneers are fairly easy to do and cost RM250 each … to close the gap, we usually will need to place a composite veneer on each tooth on either side of it.
However if the gap is really large, sometimes the next tooth has to be veneered as well to balance the size of the central incisors … so you may (I can’t say for sure til I meet you) need 4 composite veneers in all to have a really beautiful smile.
Call Amy at 03-26911334 or drop by … it doesn’t take long at all … and I promise, it is painless too!

Hi Kiko,
A pocelain filling seldom is done on a wisdom tooth but I would say it will be the same like for any porcelain crown ie RM800. This is because the work is the same .. be the end filling be a crown or onlay or …as in this case, what we dentists say … an inlay.
For a porcelain filling to be done, it will be fabricated in the technician’s laboratory and cemented in once it is ready … the process is only slightly different from a crown procedure.
Hope this helps!

Hello doc,
I was just wondering, since closing the gaps does not need to wear bracess. how long does those filling lasts? from your point of view, it is better to do bracess or filling for a long term investment.
Thanks you in advance.

Hi Victoria,
Well usually an orthodontist will want to brace up both upper and lowers so I doubt they’ll be OK with just the uppers.
Yes veneers last but well it’ll be difficult to say anything is ‘ever lasting’ after all. The care for veneers would be about the same as the care for your natural teeth. Perhaps you can come in for a consultation and see how it will look with a mock-up.
Call Amy at 03-26911334 and she’ll set it up for you.

The colourful (warna-warni) part is actually from the rubber bands that hold the wire to the brackets on your teeth. This is the rubber bands that need to be changed every 4-6 weeks so the teeth move! You can choose different colours each time you come.

Hi ina,
Terima kasih kerana email kami!

Hi Farah,
The fillings last and last and last … however like any filling (and your teeth for that matter
) they will need the usual care of brushing and regular visits to the dentist!
It’s difficult to say which is better, braces or closing gaps with veneers … it all depends on the different factors involved like your age, your job, the actual positioning of your teeth, the size of your jaw bone, the size of your tongue (yes! your tongue plays a part), the way your lip closes, etcetcetc.
The best way really, is to come in for a consultation, then you can speak to a dentist who can tell you what are your options based on your individual factors.
At the end of the day, it’s a choice you and only you have to make.
Call Amy (03-26911334) if you’d like to see me … perhaps that may help you make a decision.

Dear Dr Fauziah,
I have a two part question:
1. How much does it cost to whiten my teeth and
2. I had braces on when I was in high school, which leaves me with a baby tooth that is somewhat hidden by my other teeth. I dont know how else to explain it, but is there something that can be done with my teeth to make it look even without having to use braces again? Will there be a cost for the initial consultation? Thank you

1. Zoom whitening package is RM1700 … it’s a package which includes some great extras .. read about it on http://www.drfauziah.com/whiter-teeth/
2. No there’s no cost for the initial consultation. I must say I find it curious that despite braces you still have ‘hidden teeth and baby teeth’. The best thing to do is come in for me to have a look so I can examine you and discuss what can be done.

Hi Ina,

Hi Mimi,
Untuk rawatan bridge atau crown kami perlu dua appointment. Appointment pertama perlu masa sedikit sebab kami perlu buat banyak benda;
1. bincang akan apa yang patient nak betulkan,
2. ambil model-model sebelum rawatan,
3. buatkan rawatan untuk sediakan gigi untuk crown/bridge
4. sediakan temporary crown/ bridge
5. ambil model kawasan yang telah di rawat untuk kerja technician
6. pasangkan temporary crown/bridge
Sila talipon Amy 03-26911334 (cawangan Menara EON Bank) atau Hapiza 03-41071591 (cawangan Taman Melawati) dan tell them you need to do a crown OK.
